There’s something pretty special about the Gold Coast in August. The mornings are fresh, the days are often beautifully sunny, and you can explore without the heat and crowds of summer.
Whether you’re planning a family getaway, catching up with friends or simply looking for an excuse to escape for a few days, this is a fantastic time of year to experience the Coast.
Here are a few of our picks for making the most of your Gold Coast stay this week.
🐋 Keep an Eye Out for Whales
Whale season is well underway, and August is one of the best times to spot humpback whales making their annual journey along the Queensland coastline.
Book a whale-watching cruise for a closer look, or keep your eyes on the horizon while walking along some of the Coast’s beautiful headlands and beaches. Burleigh Headland and Point Danger are both great places to take in the ocean views – with the added possibility of spotting a whale or two.
☀️ Make the Most of Those Winter Days
Gold Coast winters have a habit of making visitors question whether it really is winter!
Pack the sunscreen, grab a coffee and spend a morning wandering the beachfront at Broadbeach, take a walk along the sand, explore the local shops or settle in somewhere sunny for a long lunch.
With cooler temperatures, it’s also the perfect time to get outdoors and explore without working up quite the same sweat as you would in January.
🌿 Swap the Beach for the Hinterland
If you’ve got a spare day, head west and discover another side of the Gold Coast.
Springbrook and Tamborine Mountain make fantastic day trips, with rainforest walks, waterfalls, lookouts, wineries, local produce and plenty of cosy cafés along the way.
After a morning exploring, find somewhere for lunch, take the scenic route home and be back at your holiday home in time for sunset drinks by the water.
🍽️ Make Dinner an Event
One of the best things about staying around Broadbeach and the surrounding suburbs is having some of the Gold Coast’s best dining precincts close by.
Make a night of it and head into Broadbeach for dinner and cocktails, discover somewhere new in Burleigh, or keep things relaxed with takeaway and a night around the pool at your holiday home.
And if nobody feels like cooking, that’s what holidays are for!
